Careers don’t just grow here, they’re made here.What is the day-to-day like?The Staff Database Engineer is responsible for administering databases along all aspects of the service lifecycle. This position requires a diligent pursuit to develop, scale, improve, and support database services within the organization.<ul><li>Manage the deployment, configuration, monitoring, and ongoing operations of relational and non-relational database services</li><li>Engage with Development teams and Operations peers to develop, scale and improve database systems and services</li><li>Administer systems as assigned to provide appropriate documentation, capacity management, monitoring, and recommendations for future state</li><li>Participate in a production support on-call rotation, completing incident and problem management tasks as assigned</li><li>Escalate support tasks to other teams or technology management when needed</li><li>Develop and maintain backup and recovery procedures for database services</li><li>Develop reports and other applications necessary to support database service operations</li><li>Administer user and application access to database services</li><li>Create and support scripts for use in daily maintenance and troubleshooting tasks; demonstrate troubleshooting skills to provide resolution to incidents and problem management projects</li><li>Understand and follow procedures identified by SOX and other security standards</li><li>Meet or exceed performance, availability, and recoverability requirements for database services</li><li>Work collaboratively with team members to analyze current systems and recommend and implement changes to current systems</li></ul>What experience and skills do you need?<ul><li>Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 8 years of related experience or 11 years of experience without a degree</li><li>Experience interacting with databases and working knowledge of database structures and design</li><li>Experience with Python or other programming language outside of shell scripting</li><li>Experience with software version control like git or SVN</li><li>Basic systems engineering skills on Linux with experience running databases on Linux</li><li>Ability to balance multiple projects and tasks concurrently in a fast-paced environment</li><li>Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate (written and verbal) with persons at all levels of the organization</li><li>Ability to think strategically, as well as curiosity to develop additional technical skills</li></ul>What experience is preferred?<ul><li>Experience supporting PostgreSQL, SQL Server, Oracle, or MySQL</li><li>Advanced systems engineering skills on Windows with experience running SQL Server</li><li>Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS), Azure, or other cloud computing services</li><li>Experience with Terraform</li><li>Experience with Ansible, Chef, or any other configuration and automation management framework</li><li>Ability to understand application architecture and its impact on database design</li><li>Experience and practical knowledge of agile development process</li></ul>SPS Commerce offers a comprehensive package of benefits including health, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance, paid time-off, 401(k), health and flexible spending accounts, stock purchase plan and more.** EOE including disability / veteran ** PI242894343
